01 Nov Expansion of free ‘home away from home’ accommodation across the UK
Ronald McDonald House Charities is on the move. Four major developments are underway next to major paediatric hospitals across the UK. Its free ‘home away from home’ accommodation for families of children in hospital is to be built or expanded in Cardiff, Edinburgh, London and Oxford.
Open 365 days a year and equipped with en-suite bedrooms, kitchens, lounges, playroom areas and laundry facilities, the charity’s Houses are a ‘lifeline’ to stressed and anxious parents who want to be near their child, yet cannot afford the expense of a hotel, and would otherwise have only a camp bed next to their child, or at worst have to sleep in the car.
Ronald McDonald House Charities believes that every child should have the right to have a family member nearby when ill in hospital. Its family-centred care is a model of best practice.
